Castello di San Pelagio

The Castle of San Pelagio has medieval origins (14th century), as evidenced by the 14th-century tower built by the Da Carrara family, Lords of Padua, in the first half of the century. In the second half of the 18th century, the property passed to the Counts Zaborra, who significantly expanded the building, renovated the main residence to adapt it into an elegant noble home, and built the Barchessa for agricultural purpose. Since then, the Zaborra family has lived in the Castle, which is rich in both private and historical memories.

From here, on August 9th, 1918, the poet Gabriele d’Annunzio set off on the “crazy” Flight over Vienna, where he carried out his famous mission: dropping thousands of leaflets over the Austro-Hungarian capital asking to surrender.

In the D’Annunzio’s apartments, everything has been restored as it was, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the inimitable memory of the Vate (profet). Other spaces house a Museum unique in Europe, retracing the fascinating history of human flight.
