Villa Rechsteiner

Villa Rechsteiner is a 17th-century Venetian Villa located just a few kilometers from Treviso, in the green heart of Oderzo, set within the prestigious context of Azienda Agricola Rechsteiner.

Inspired by the typical Venetian palace, the villa features a perfectly symmetrical quadrangular plan arranged over three levels, with the central floor forming the traditional Piano Nobile, reserved for the owning family. The spatial layout reflects the original concept of the Venetian villa: a seasonal residence for the Venetian nobleman during sowing and harvest periods, and at the same time the operational center of the agricultural estate. It was therefore not only a place of economic management, but also a setting for representation and culture. From an architectural perspective, the building’s symmetry is perceptible from within: standing at the center with the windows open, one can visually look through all four sides of the structure, testifying to a rigorous and harmonious design.

The earliest documentary evidence dates back to the late 17th century; the first confirmed record discovered to date is the Catasto Ottoboni of 1728. Over the centuries, the property passed through important families, including the Serbelloni and the Revedin, until its purchase in 1881 by Friedrich Rechsteiner, founder of the present-day agricultural estate. To this day, the property is managed by one of his descendants, Baron Florian von Stepski Doliwa.

During the recent restoration of the south façade, a large portion of frescoes resurfaced and now represents a distinctive feature of the Villa, officially inaugurated in October 2025. The façade facing the park appears as a true scenic backdrop, consistent with the ancient ideal of otium and negotium: the villa not only as an agricultural center, but as a place of study, dialogue, and contemplation.

The frescoes, characterized by vivid colors and references to Greek mythology, decorate the upper floors — the noble levels. Symbols of fertility — such as the snail, the goose, and the pomegranate — together with references to family and ancient myths, suggest a celebratory pictorial cycle, likely created on the occasion of a wedding. The decorative scheme thus becomes an expression of the owners’ private dimension and their connection to art, nature, and culture.

The ground floor, now the private residence of the owners, is not normally open to visitors but is accessible on special occasions, such as winery events, masterclasses, concerts, and cultural gatherings.

Beyond the Villa, the estate includes the Winery, the Borgo courtyard with its historic Barchessa, and a centuries-old park extending over approximately three hectares. A few kilometers away is also the company’s Agriturismo, offering rooms, apartments, and a restaurant, completing a complex that harmoniously combines history, wine production, and hospitality.
